Case Study
Heartland Motors Pty Ltd

Project Size:
99.12kW Rooftop Solar
Zorawar Homes Pty Ltd, a respected name in custom home construction and property development across NSW, has taken a bold step toward sustainability by investing in solar energy for its office operations. As a company that helps clients build future-ready homes, it was only fitting to lead by example with a clean energy transition of their own.
In collaboration with AYKA Solar, a 20.24kW rooftop solar system was installed, designed specifically to meet the high daytime energy demands of their busy office. From design studios and administrative departments to project planning and client meetings, the entire business now operates on solar-powered efficiency, delivering both environmental and economic value daily.
Key Project Stats
420 kWh in daily generation
75% self-sufficiency overall
Reliable solar support for workshop tools, lighting, and showroom equipment
OBJECTIVES
Heartland Motors approached this project with a clear focus on improving both efficiency and sustainability. One of their primary goals was to mitigate the rising and often unpredictable electricity costs associated with operating a large automotive business. They also wanted to future-proof their operations by switching to a clean, renewable energy source. Given the high energy demands of their workshop and showroom, ensuring a reliable power supply was essential. At the same time, they needed to make sure the solar installation process didn’t interfere with their day-to-day operations.
As Christopher Scholfield explains:
“In a business like ours, where power usage is heavy and consistent, going solar just made sense—both financially and environmentally.”
SOLUTION
Smart Commercial Solar custom-designed a 99.12kW solar PV system tailored to the demands of Heartland Motors. The system was engineered to cover daytime peak loads across the workshop and showroom, ensuring minimal reliance on grid energy.Designed to withstand local weather conditions, the system features remote monitoring capabilities for real-time performance tracking, enabling the Heartland team to stay informed and in control.
“We mapped out the site to maximise solar exposure without interfering with business operations. The result is a high-performance system that blends seamlessly into Heartland’s daily rhythm.”
— Senior Project Manager

CHALLENGES
Installing a solar system in the fast-paced environment of an automotive business, such as Heartland Motors, came with its own set of challenges. It was crucial to maintain uninterrupted power for high-load workshop equipment, which is vital to daily operations. The team also had to work around the existing roof structure and limited timeframes for installation, ensuring minimal disruption to business activities. Additionally, the solar system needed to be carefully designed to match the varying energy demands throughout the day. To address these complexities, Smart Commercial Solar collaborated closely with the Heartland team, delivering a tailored solution that was installed safely, efficiently, and without interrupting operations.
THE FUTURE
With the solar system now running at full potential, Heartland Motors is already exploring:
- Battery storage to expand clean energy usage into the evening
- EV charging solutions to future-proof the business for electric vehicles
- Sharing solar insights with other dealerships in their network

“This isn’t just about lowering costs—it’s about leading by example. We want our customers and our community to see that sustainable business is smart business.”
— Christopher Scholfield
