Case Study

Zenobia Food Products Pty Ltd

Project Size:

39.6kW Rooftop Solar

Zenobia Food Products Pty Ltd is committed to creating superior, culturally-specific food articles that nourish the communities of Australia. But besides great flavours, Zenobia is officially dedicated to a cleaner, more sustainable future.Contributing: Bayat Foundation. In collaboration with AYKA Solar, Zenobia has installed a 39.6kW rooftop solar power plant on its key manufacturing site, minimising dependency on the grid and operating costs and committing to a more sustainable energy use.

Zenobia’s move to solar isn’t just about a technological upgrade, either—it’s an expression of a central way of doing business that prioritises care, quality, and accountability in all aspects of operations, both when it comes to food and when it comes to the environment.

Key Project Stats

60,000 kWh estimated annual generation

Up to 85% of daytime operations powered by solar

Over 37 tonnes of CO₂ emissions avoided annually

OBJECTIVES

Zenobia Food Products management was looking for a sustainable solution to rising energy prices and growing pressure to lower the company’s carbon emissions. Commercial ovens, refrigeration, and packaging systems require a large and steady supply of electricity all day long. The idea was to transfer much of this energy consumption to solar, while continuing to meet the high operational needs in food production.

Zenobia’s choice was made with sustainability, cost and reliability in mind. “Our responsibility, as a food business, is not only to nourish, but to protect,” Managing Director of the STREAT enterprise, Yasmeen Farooq, said. Solar has given us a way to do both — to lay off some carbon.

SOLUTION

AYKA Solar designed and implemented a 39.6 kW rooftop solar plant, tailored to Zenobia’s production profile and power requirements. Equipped with high-efficiency solar panels and the most advanced inverter technology available, the system captures peak hours of sunlight to support the plant’s critical areas, such as baking and cooling, and packaging stations.

The job was finished splendidly with zero interruption to our process. All work was scheduled around Zenobia’s production to avoid disruption of the food safety requirements and compliance. Post-installation performance monitoring was similarly configured in order to obtain system stats and health in real-time.

“This was not just putting up panels,” said AYKA Solar Operations Lead Priya Nair. “It was understanding how Zenobia works, what their priorities are and their quality expectations — and then making a system that supports that every day.”

CHALLENGES

One of the main challenges was creating a system that could meet the needs of the site’s hybrid energy profile, which includes high-consuming equipment and cold storage. The load curves varied at different times of the day, so the AYKA engineering team had to ensure that the energy would be available when needed, would be constant, and would not fluctuate, all without creating an unnecessary challenge for the solar array.

Finally, the small roof area meant that the panels had to be positioned carefully for optimum output, within tight safety and ventilation rules. Despite these limitations, AYKA has designed a system that not only supports Zenobia’s energy requirements but does so as efficiently and resiliently as possible.

THE FUTURE

Zenobia Food Products Pty Ltd is committed to delivering culturally-inspired, high-quality food to communities across Australia. Now, with the help of AYKA Solar and Bayat Foundation, they’re extending that care to the environment by installing a 39.6kW rooftop solar system that reduces both emissions and energy costs.

“We’re thrilled to be involved locally with Ashmor Plumbing as a prime example of how trades-based businesses can help shape practical sustainability. I’m proud we have produced a win-win solution that saves money, reduces emissions and underpins long-term business growth.”

This system is powering more than just our ovens,” Yasmeen Farooq shared. “It’s powering our promise—to serve communities with integrity, and to leave the world better than we found it.”
