How to read your bill

Here’s a quick guide to the information you’ll find on your bill:

This is your unique account number,  if you have any queries or issues, you can submit them.

This section displays your payment amount and the due date, including when your direct debit is scheduled. If you’re on Bill Smoothing, your installment amount and frequency will also be shown.

You will see electricity provider available options with your current plan to ensure you’re on one of the most cost-effective energy plans. You will also find a plan that could save you more and inform you about the potential savings and how to switch.

Paying your bill online is simple and convenient. There are several payment options available, including Direct Debit, which ensures your bills are paid on time without any hassle.

Your reference number is in the center of the payment slip. For certain payment methods, you will need to quote this request.

This section provides a summary of your plan and its benefits.

This graph shows your average daily energy usage for the present period compared to the same time last year. You can log in to your Electricity Bill Account to monitor your usage.

This section shows whether your meter reading is actual or estimated. Sometimes, you may need to estimate your energy usage instead of billing based on actual data. If this applies, here are your details on how to submit your own meter reading.

The new charges and credits section lists—units and prices for the billing period, as well as discounts, concessions, solar export, and utilization of electricity. GST is included in the entire cost. Applicable unit prices are shown at the time of use.

Here, you’ll find information about payment assistance and interpreters to get help in your language.

This graph shows how much electricity you have used over the last 12 months. The chart displays your monthly energy use as a blue line and your energy export to the grid as a purple line. Only with solar power will this purple line show up.

This section contains information regarding the reading on your meter. For the billing period, these are utilized to compute your energy bill. Your smart meter’s reading will use the data you give, supplied in half-hourly intervals, to compute your invoices. Check out your account through Electricity Bill PAGES to see how to utilize it.

You can also see essential messages about your meter under this table, such as the date of the read, the next scheduled meter, and any problems you had getting into your property.

1. Energy Charges:

Peak Consumption: The time of day when the demand for electricity is at its highest. This usually happens during the morning and evening when people are using more electricity at home, like cooking, heating, or cooling their homes. During these peak times, electricity can be more expensive because the demand is higher.

2. Supply Charge: The fixed daily fee you pay to your energy provider for being connected to the electricity network. This charge covers the cost of maintaining the energy infrastructure, like poles, wires, and pipelines, regardless of how much energy you use. It’s like a basic fee just for having access to electricity at your property.

3. Demand Charges: The part of your electricity bill based on the highest amount of electricity you use at one time. Unlike regular charges, which depend on the total energy you use over time (measured in kilowatt-hours, kWh), demand charges are based on the peak power usage, usually measured in kilowatts (kW).
