Why does the government offer rebates for Solar?

The Australian government has set the target of 100% clean and green energy by 2050. For achieving this target in 2050, they offer incentives to set up solar system for homes and businesses.

The government gives you something called STC, small-scale technology certificates, based on the size of the system and your location. You can use these STCs to reduce the cost of the system.

Will The Rebates Go Down With Time?

They will in fact go down. This scheme began in 2017, and until 2030, the incentives are set to decrease by 1/15th every year. That’s why now is the best time to install solar panels to get the maximum out of the rebates. The rebates are indeed a small towards sustainable homes but a big leap for sustainable Australia! Chose the right choice for a brighter and wiser energy production in 2022!

What are Australian government Rebates?

The Australian government has the Small-Scale Renewable Energy Scheme. Through this scheme, it gives out STC (Small-Scale Technology Certificates) to the pro home or business  owners to pay towards their solar installation on their property. Each certificate has a certain value.

What do you need to do to claim the rebates?

In order to qualify for the rewards, you must install solar PV panels and inverters from manufacturers approved by the Clean Energy Council. The installation company needs to be CEC accredited too

How much rebate will I get through the STC?

Depending on the size, expected life of the system and your zone you get a certain amount of money towards the installation of your solar system. Most of WA is in zone 3. For example let’s do an example calculation for Perth. Let’s assume a certificate value of $37 each (This value can fluctuate).

A  6.6 kW solar system in zone 3 will be eligible for 82 certificates. This would means that, for an entire system you will be saving up to $3034 (i.e. 82 X $37 = $3034). Considering that the typical cost of a 6.6 kW system is about 6,000 to 9,000 you will be saving ~50% to 33%. Prices for certificates and solar systems fluctuate depending on the demand for those certificates and the supply of solar panels and inverters..

What are the ACT government incentives?

Besides the Australian government the ACT government too is fully committed to renewable energy. To encourage people to convert to green energy, the ACT government offers generous incentives.

ACT government’s NexGen Energy Storage Program aims to modernise energy storage – hence it offers financial incentives for people to buy batteries. Sustainable Household Scheme helps homeowners and businesses access solar energy more easily. There are some rebates for low income households too.

What are the WA government incentives?

The WA government provides feed in tariffs for any excess electricity you generate and send it to the grid. The rates depend on the time of electricity generation. For example 3PM to 9PM is the peak time for electricity usage. Hence the money you get for the extra electricity you send back to the grid is 10 cents per unit. During the non-peak time you get 3 cents per unit. The solar rebate WA is a great opportunity to make the most out of government funds for going sustainable while saving a lot more on your end.
