Case Study

Catherines Aged Care

Project Size:

94.83kW Rooftop Solar

Catherines Aged Care is dedicated to delivering compassionate, high-quality care in a warm and supportive environment. As part of its commitment to continuous improvement and responsible operations, the organisation partnered with AYKA Solar to install a rooftop solar system that reduces carbon emissions while supporting critical healthcare services.

For Catherines Aged Care, going solar was more than an energy decision—it was a meaningful step toward sustainable healthcare. With round-the-clock energy needs, especially for medical equipment, lighting, and climate control, the facility required a reliable solution that wouldn’t compromise care.

OBJECTIVES

Catherines Aged Care aimed to reduce operational costs and strengthen its environmental performance without affecting the quality of care for residents. With rising energy prices and increased focus on green credentials in aged care, solar offered an opportunity to align financial sustainability with social responsibility.

The core objectives included:

  • Reducing electricity expenditure to allocate more funds to resident services
  • Improving energy resilience to ensure uninterrupted operation of essential systems
  • Enhancing environmental performance in line with aged care sustainability standards
  • Minimising the environmental footprint in the community it serves

In the words of the facility director:
“We care for people—and that includes caring for the planet. This project aligns with our mission to do both with integrity.”

SOLUTION

AYKA Solar developed and installed a customised 94.83kW rooftop solar system engineered to support the facility’s consistent and critical energy usage. The design was optimised to ensure peak daytime production matched with operational demand, particularly in care rooms, kitchens, laundry services, and admin areas.

High-efficiency panels paired with a smart inverter system and real-time monitoring tools allow staff to track performance, ensuring maximum benefit with minimal maintenance. The system is also future-ready, with provisions for future battery storage or system expansion.

“This wasn’t just about panels on the roof—it was about building long-term reliability and peace of mind for a facility that operates 24/7.”

CHALLENGES

Installing a solar system on an aged care facility required thoughtful planning to avoid disruption to residents and staff. The building layout, strict safety protocols, and operational sensitivity meant every stage of the project had to be handled with care.

Structural load analysis, custom mounting systems, and silent installation phases were key to maintaining comfort and safety throughout. In addition, ensuring full compliance with health and aged care regulations required close coordination with onsite management and facility engineers.

“We needed a partner who understood the nuances of working in healthcare. AYKA Solar’s team was professional, precise, and patient—they delivered a solution that works in harmony with our values.”
