Why does the government offer rebates for Solar?

The Australian government has set the target of 100% clean and green energy by 2050. For achieving this target the government offers residential and business property owners certain incentives to set up solar systems. The government gives you something called STC, small-scale technology certificates, based on the size of the system and your zone. You can use these STCs to pay towards the cost of the system.

Will the rebates go down with time?

Sadly, yes. This scheme began in 2017, and until 2030, the incentives are set to decrease by 1/15th every year. That’s why now is the best time to get the maximum out of the solar rebates. To avoid this we suggest you install solar panels now and take the benefits of the solar rebate in Queensland.

What are Australian government Rebates?

The Australian government has the Small-Scale Renewable Energy Scheme. Through this scheme, it gives out STC (Small-Scale Technology Certificates) to the home or business owners to pay for their solar installation on their property. Each certificate has a certain value. Solar rebate QLD are the great option towards green and clean energy generation.

Who is eligible for the QLD Solar rebates?

To claim the solar rebate in QLD  you need to install solar PV panels and inverters from the list of CEC (Clean Energy Council) approved manufacturers.

The installation company needs to be CEC accredited too.

How much rebate will I get through the STC?

Depending on the size, expected life of the system and your zone you get a certain amount of money towards the installation of your solar system. QLD has zones 1, 2 and 3 for different areas. For example Brisbane is in zone 3. Let’s do an example calculation for Brisbane. Assume a certificate value of $37 each (This value can fluctuate). A 6.6 kW solar system in zone 3 will be eligible for 82 certificates. That translates to 82 X $37 = $3034 for the entire system. Considering that the typical cost of a 6.6 kW system is about 6,000 to 9,000 you will be saving ~50% to 33%.

The above price is not exact. The price of each certificate and solar system fluctuates depending on the demand for those certificates and solar panel/ inverter supply. Also for solar rebates in QLD, some places may be in different zones.

What are the QLD Solar rebate or government incentives?

The Queensland government has feed-in tariffs for any excess electricity you generate and send it to the grid. For certain existing customers, the feed in tariff rate is 43 cents per unit. However the newer customers are offered feed-in tariff rate of 6.583 cents per unit for regional Queenslanders, and as much as 18 cents per unit for exported energy.
